Biannually, the Suffolk Democratic Committee reorganizes in accordance with the Party Plan of the Democratic Party of Virginia. During this reorganization, committee members as well as officers must be elected.

Call to Caucus

The Suffolk Democratic Committee hereby announces that it will hold an unassembled caucus beginning at 7:00 PM, January 12, 2016 at 701 Old East Pinner Street for the purpose of electing members to the Suffolk Democratic Committee. The caucus will elect members who have completed an application form as noted above. Any person attending the caucus, before participating, shall sign a standardized Caucus Participation Form stating that he or she is a registered Suffolk voter, is a Democrat, does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to a Democratic nominee in the ensuing general election, and believes in the principles of the Democratic Party. The caucus will conclude at 8:00 PM.

All those seeking membership for the 2016-2018 term must complete an application/membership form and submit it to the acting chair, Leslie Rinaldi, either in person, by mail to the Suffolk Democratic Committee (PO Box 3458 / Suffolk, VA 23434), by email to sdc@suffolkian.com or online via the form at http://sdcvirginia.org/membership-form/. A printable application as well as the on-line form can be found at the above link. Emailed submissions should be printed, filled out, and scanned.

The deadline for receipt of submissions is 5:00 PM, January 12, 2015. It is the candidates’ responsibility to ensure that submissions are properly delivered to the committee prior to the deadline.

Individuals who have submitted this application will be eligible for election to the city Committee. Any person elected to the Committee and in good standing will be able to vote for officers. Members elected through this process on January 12 will serve for two years.

The reorganization process will begin with the election of members at the January 12 Committee Meeting, 701 Old East Pinner Street. Elections of Officers will immediately follow.

Committee members may nominate themselves or another standing member for any of the offices. The person elected (and installed) will serve a two-year term which begins with the election in January and runs to the election of officers for the 2018-2010 cycle. Nominations will be taken from the floor after the committee report is presented at the January 12 committee meeting. Leslie Rinaldi, sdc@suffolkian.com will collect the nominations and can respond to questions.

In order to be eligible to run for any officer position, a candidate must be a member of the Suffolk Democratic Committee in good standing. The candidate must agree to abide by the principles and bylaws of the Democratic Party and certify that he or she is a Democrat who is a registered voter in Suffolk. Additionally the person must believe in the principles of the Democratic Party and indicate that he or she does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to a Democratic nominee in the next ensuing election.
