The City of Suffolk will consider showing its support for Virginia to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. The item will be on the agenda for the December 19th city council meeting.
Credit goes to Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for their efforts in bringing this issue to the attention of the city council and to the public.
Thanks in part to members of the Suffolk Democratic Committee, there was a good turnout at the December 6th meeting to show support for adding the item to the agenda.
There are several more steps ahead. If the resolution passes, the City of Suffolk will voice it’s support for ratification. The Virginia General Assembly will still have to vote to ratify the amendment. Legal challenges would likely follow.
