Minutes of the General Meeting of May 10 2022

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 6:44 by chairperson Leslie Rinaldi

Standard Reports

A Motion by Catherine Anson to accept the minutes of April, which were e-mailed to members by Benjamin Goldberg, passed

The financial report was presented by Catherine Anson and was to be filed for audit. Ms. Anson thanked the Elaine Luria campaign for their contribution and noted expenses such as Zoom and Quickbooks, and said that the cost of the new facilities is less than what the committee had been paying for the previous location

Business

Elaine Luria Campaign

Jasmyn Harrell from the Luria campaign said canvassing will be Saturdays from 12 to 3, from the office of Clint Jenkins, and there will be hybrid phone banking on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday 6:00 to 8:00

Outreach

DJ McQuire presented the Outreach report and said the committee was moving forward with social media and canvassing

Pat Jacobson said she had a letter to editors workshop and that Robin Holton submitted a letter concerning gun control which was published by the Virginian Pilot

Events

Leslie Rinaldi said the Leadership Luncheon has been scheduled for July 30

Press Secretary / Social Media

Leslie Rinaldi asked for a volunteer to be press secretary and for assistance with the Social Media committee. She said social media falls under the press secretary but that position is vacant.

Michele Joyce for Delegate / 84th District Elections

Benjamin Goldberg addressed the committee to say he is working with Michele Joyce for the 84th district. He supports Ms. Joyce because of her history of hard work in the area, her relations with the committee, and her familiarity with local issues such as transportation and flooding

Leslie Rinaldi reminded members that the committee is neutral regarding Democratic primaries and that the current priority is Elaine Luria

Brandon Randleman and Sandra Brandt discussed the lawsuit pending to hold special elections for delegate this year. They felt it likely that the suit will fail

Nadarius Clark, who is also running for the 84th district, addressed the committee and said he has been meeting with leaders in Suffolk to be familiar with our issues and has experience getting bills passed representing a diverse district including rural areas

DPVA Events

Sandra Brandt addressed the committee to announce that DPVA is encouraging Sunday Souls to the Polls events wherever possible. Ms. Brandt also said Suffolk is part of the Hampton Roads Young Democrats chaired by Lucas Anderson. She also said the Blue Commonwealth Gala was to happen Friday after the meeting, and said DPVA is planning for a summit with two tracks: one for candidates and one for local committees. The summit will likely take place in July. Ms. Brandt also said the state party will helpful with technology and social media

Roe v Wade Protests

Carl Jackson said there would be several events protesting the possible overturn of Roe V Wade

Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 7:44
