Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 6:35 by Robert Barclay. Chairperson Sharon Eaton was not present. The committee had a quorum
Minutes and Treasurer’s Report
The committee approved the minutes which had been emailed to members prior to the meeting by Benjamin Goldberg
Catherine Anson presented the treasurer’s report, which was approved by for filing
Ongoing Business
Membership
Robert Barclay presented the Membership Committee report and said that two membership applicants were to be voted on. Those people were Bianca Ford and Narendra Pleas. Mr. Barclay representing the Membership Committee made a motion to accept the members. The motion passed
Outreach Committee
Leslie Rinaldi said the Outreach Committee would meet Thursday January 21st at 7:00 PM, via Zoom. Ms. Rinaldi said she hopes for as many precinct members as possible to join the meeting to discuss and strategize strengths and weaknesses per precinct. Ms. Rinaldi also said she would like to use Zulip, a communications platform which Benjamin Goldberg had been encouraging members to use
Technology Committee
Benjamin Goldberg noted that the technology committee hadn’t met recently, and said he’d be interested in turning over his chairmanship of the committee to someone who might be better at getting people together
Suffolk Electoral Board
Beverly Outlaw informed the committee that Reverend Isaac Baker was the newest member of the Suffolk Electoral Board, and was sworn in January 5th. He replaced James Banks. Ms. Outlaw, who is a long term member of Electoral Board, said she looks forward to working with Rev. Baker
New Business
National Day of
Catherine Anson said Michele Joyce sent an email regarding National Day of Service, which is to coincide with Martin Luther King Day. Ms. Joyce is looking for diaper donations. The email said one out of three families don’t have reliable access to diapers. The diapers will be giving to the Isle of Wight Christian Outreach Program. Diapers can be dropped off at Food Lion 13478 Carolton Blvd.
Ms. Anson asked if anyone else knows of other Day of Service events. Kristen Hartman said several links were available on the Biden/Harris inauguration website. Robert Barclay said the City of Suffolk often posts Day of Service information on their website
Vote to Certify the National Election
Dorothy Waddel said she had a list of U.S. Congress members who voted to overturn November’s election, and wanted to send that list to the committee. Benjamin Goldberg said he could send that list out. Beverly Outlaw said that four of those members represent Virginia and we should work toward their removal from office
Catherine Anson said we should contact our Democratic representatives. Ms. Anson said she contacted her representatives and received immediate responses.
Sharon Eaton / Clint Jenkins
Robert Barclay offered best wishes to Sharon Eaton, who was unable to chair this meeting due to illness. He also offered best wishes to Clinton Jenkins, who was going to Richmond to represent his district on several important issues.
Vaccine Information
Robert Barclay noted Virginia is vaccinating people in phases. His wife, a nurse practitioner, had received her first dose in December and was due for another the following week. Robin Holton said to look to Virginia’s Department of Health for more vaccine information. Dorothy Waddell noted that Chesapeake Public Schools would be starting vaccines the following day. Kristin Hartman said you can sign up for notifications about availability at Virginia’s Department of Health website
