** Canceled ** INITIAL CALL TO CAUCUS TO NOMINATE A DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE 64th District, Virginia House of Delegates

The 64th District Democratic Nominating Committee will hold an unassembled caucus (firehouse primary) on Saturday, June 8, 2019, between 1pm and 4pm at the following locations:

Isle of Wight County-Carrollton Library-14362 New Towne Haven Lane, Carrollton, VA 23314

Suffolk City-701 Old East Pinner Street, Suffolk, VA 23434

Prince George County-Prince George-Library 6605 Courts Drive, Prince George, VA 23875

Surry County Parks and Recreation Center-205 Enos Farm Drive, Surry, VA 23883

The purpose of the Caucus is to elect a Democratic candidate for the 64th House District seat whose name will appear on the ballot for the General Election on November 5, 2019.

I. Candidate Filing:

Each person seeking to become the Democratic nominee for the General Election for the 64th District shall file a Declaration of Candidacy form with the 64th District Democratic Committee Nominating Committee Chair and a $500.00 nonrefundable certified cashier’s check (cash or money order not accepted) made payable to the Isle of Wight Democratic Committee. Filings shall be made from May 1 – May 31, 2019. Only those candidates who have timely and properly filed a Declaration of Candidacy form and paid the filing fee will have their names placed in nomination. To obtain the Declaration of Candidacy form please contact — Isle of Wight County, Debra Church (757) 343-4817; Suffolk City, Leslie Rinaldi (540) 834-8788; Prince George County, Carroll Briggs (804) 370-1542; or Surry County, John Elliott (804) 467-2701.

II. Participation:

Every Democrat who is a registered voter in the 64th District is urged to attend and participate by voting in the caucus. Each participant must sign a written declaration that he or she:
● Is a Democrat and not a member of any other political party;
● Does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to a Democratic nominee in this General Election;
● Has not participated in and will not participate in the nominating process of any other party for the position listed above; and
● Is registered to vote in the 64th District

III. Conduct of Caucus

Voting will begin at 1pm and will close at 4pm. Those in line at the close of voting will be permitted to vote.

The Isle of Wight Democratic committee serves as the Chair of the Caucus. The Rules of the Caucus are available upon request from the local Democratic Committee Chairs listed above.

IV. Determination of Nominee

If more than one candidate files for the Democratic nominee for the 64th District by the deadline, the candidates will be listed alphabetically on the ballot and will be elected by a plurality of the votes of the unassembled caucus.
