Suffolk Democrats Honor Three Community Heroes

Yesterday, the Suffolk Democratic Committee honored Marion D. Flood, Mary C. Haddad, and Robin J. Whitley for the service to our community. Dr. Douglass Naismith accepted the award on behalf of Ms. Haddad, who was out of the country during the ceremony.

Marion Flood’s award was presented by Michele Faulk, who recognized her volunteer work in promoting literacy and in establishing programs for children in Whaleyville. Robert Stephens recognized Mary Haddad for her contributions to and service in several community programs including the Lou and Mary Haddad Foundation, which provides funds to support Suffolk students, and Dorothy Waddell spoke of Robin Whitley’s volunteerism with many causes in and around the City of Suffolk such as Relay for life and the Genève Shelter, and her political activism.

The Honorable Justin E. Fairfax, Lieutenant Governor for the State of Virginia, was our guest speaker. Lt. Governor Fairfax acknowledged that honorees don’t do it for the awards, but do deserve them. He also spoke about making progress during contentious times.
